Approximately a week ago, a Miami man was witnessed eating another man’s face off, in the nude. When cops arrived, they were forced to shoot the man six times in the chest before he went down. all they could say about his composure was that he was in a “Zombie like state”. This threw the world (or at least the internet) into a frenzy. There are millions of people out there who know what zombies are, and who understand what even a single case such as this could mean. A lot of people jumped on the zombie bandwagon, some hoping to bash some zombie skulls and some just gullible enough to believe that it was a legitimate zombie virus. But, as more information came and the news explained more of the situation, it became apparent that this was no infection, it was simply drugs. More specifically, a new drug in which people are calling “Bath Salts” (not to be mistaken with the actual bath salts for bathing). It just goes to show how quickly nowadays the news can travel and influence those around it. With one incident, the world was readying their baseball bats and preparing to fortify walls. The news is a very powerful media source indeed, and should always be judged with a cautious eye.
Call me Maybe (Media Log # 9)
Hey I just teach you
And this is crazy
But here’s a project
Please use Prezi
This is just one use of the new memes that is sweeping the internet, the “Call me Maybe” meme. Originating from the song Call me Maybe by artist Carly Rae Jepsen, the main chorus which consisted of four lines has made itself a popular use for a rhyming scheme. The original four lines are as follows:
Hey I just met you
And this is crazy
But here’s my number
So call me maybe
Now this song is all over the place, and people can’t help but make up random lines that work with the songs chorus in hopes to be funny. This is a textbook definition of a meme, where something comes up on T.V., in a movie, or on the internet and becomes bigger and more annoyingly memorable than intended to be.
